2014 GMC Sierra 1500 recalls
Front
The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate. A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge.
Recall 21V245000 · Apr 2021Wheel sensor failure can cause sudden pulling
Crash riskIf a wheel-speed sensor fails while the vehicle is going between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the brake control software can wrongly apply the brake on one wheel. The vehicle may then pull sharply to one side without warning, which raises the risk of a crash.
Fix: The dealer will reprogram the brake control module (EBCM) at no cost to you.
Recall 19V761000 · Oct 2019Vacuum
The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time. As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge.
Recall 19V645000 · Sep 2019Equipment
Fire riskThese extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Recall 18V267000 · Apr 2018Pretensioner, Sensor / control module-inactive
While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash. A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced.
Recall 17V437000 · Jul 2017Power steering may temporarily cut out
Crash riskThe electric power steering can briefly lose its assist, mostly when turning at low speed. If the assist returns after dropping out, the driver may briefly lose control of the steering wheel, which raises the risk of a crash.
Fix: A dealer will update the electric power steering module software at no cost to you.
Recall 17V414000 · Jun 2017Pretensioner, Sensor / control module-inactive
In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.
Recall 16V651000 · Sep 2016Seat belt tensioner cable may separate
Injury riskThe seat belt tensioner cable can fatigue and separate when drivers slide over it while getting into the vehicle. If it separates, the belt may not hold the driver properly in a crash, raising the risk of injury.
Fix: The dealer will modify the vehicle so the tensioner cannot be damaged, and will replace any already-damaged tensioner free of charge.
Recall 16V209000 · Apr 2016Exhaust system
Fire risk3L engine or 5.3L engine. The overheated exhaust components may melt nearby plastic parts and may result in an engine fire.
Fix: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the engine control module, free of charge.
